Student Technology Information: Semester Loan Technology

A guide to technology to support your learning.

Semester Loan Technology Program

  • Chromebook - Laptop with Chrome Operating System as opposed to Windows 10 or Mac OS.
  • Hot Spot - A device that receives a cellular signal and emits a Wi-Fi signal so you may access the internet. *Required in order to use a Chromebook if you do not have Internet Service.
  • Graphing Calculator - A calculator that is capable of plotting graphs, solving simultaneous equations, and performing other tasks with variables.

Procedure

  • Student initiates a request in-person at the Library.
  • Library staff verify the requester is a current Harper College student. *A Harper student ID or other valid photo ID is required. 
  • Student reads and agrees to the Technology Borrower's Agreement. 
  • Materials are pulled and checked out to the student. 
  • All technology items are due at the end of the current semester or if the student withdraws from all credit classes. Students are encouraged to return the technology earlier than the due date if it is no longer needed for the semester.

Helpful Chromebook Apps

All the apps listed below are free to download on your Chromebook. To see all apps, visit the Google Play store. 

 

Google Docs Available with all student Harper emails and compatible with Microsoft Office. 
Google Keep Great for creating quick notes and lists. This app can automatically transcribe text if you prefer to record a voice memo.
Google Slides Similar to PowerPoint. Used for creating presentations.
Google Sheets Similar to Excel. Used for creating spreadsheets.
Study Music Listen to music that helps you keep productive and focused while working on assignments. 
School Planner Plan your schedule and coursework to help you stay on track with your classes.
WellTrack

Manage your mental well being through this interactive and confidential tool. Register with your Harper email address for full access.

 

Need Technology or Technical Assistance?

The Harper College library has Chromebooks, wi-fi hotspots and graphing calculators available for free semester-long loan rentals. Equipment is available through the Library (in Building F) while supplies last. Students must be registered for the current semester to borrow equipment.

Students can request an equipment loan by visiting the Library during open building hours.

The Student Service Desk provides free technical support for students. Support is currently available through virtual chat, email, or phone.
