Arab American culture topics cover a broad range of disciplines from history, to music, to art and literature.   You can search in a multi-disciplinary database or choose an appropriate subject specific database.  Best bets are listed below as well as a link to all databases.  Many databases at Harper College Library contain scholarly journal articles, but they may also contain newspaper articles, videos, case studies and more.

Search Terms to use in databases

Keywords are words that represent the concepts you'd like to search for.  Examples of keywords are: 

  • Arab American Culture
  • Arab American Heritage
  • Arab Ethnic Identity
  • Arabic Cultural Practice
  • Religions in Arab Countries
  • any country that is considered part of the Arab World

Use inclusive language in your search with the Boolean operators OR and AND. However be mindful that some individuals may or may not be comfortable with being identified with these labels.

  • Use OR to connect keywords that represent the same concept. Ex: (Arab American OR MENA).  
  • Use AND to connect keywords that represent different concepts.  Ex: (Arab American OR Muslim) AND (teen OR adolescent) AND (identity)
