This handout will help you begin to answer the questions for your research project.
The Assignment
American government congressional research project

Illinois State Board of Elections
Search by address to find national and state-level officials along with district number
Clerk of the United States House of Representatives
Provides information about congressional committees. The “Members” page allows you to search by member name and/or state to find what committees someone is on. You can also find the recent voting history of every member.

My Congressional District, from the US Census Bureau
Provides demographic and business data for every Congressional district.
Cook Political Report
Provides information about which party won the vote in each district in recent presidential elections.
Election Statistics, from History, Art, and Archives of the United States House of Reps
Provides information about how each district has voted in previous presidential elections, which will provide you some information about local political affiliations.
