Databases

LGBTQ+ topics cover a broad range of disciplines from healthcare, to education, to law.   You can search in a multi-disciplinary database or choose an appropriate subject specific database.  Best bets are listed below as well as a link to all databases.  Many databases at Harper College Library contain scholarly journal articles, but they may also contain newspaper articles, videos, case studies and more.

Search Terms to use in databases

Keywords are words that represent the concepts you'd like to search for.  Examples of keywords are: 

  • lgbt
  • lesbian
  • transgender
  • bisexual
  • gay

You can connect keywords in your search with the Boolean operators OR and AND

  • Use OR to connect keywords that represent the same concept. Ex: (lgbt OR gay OR lesbian).  
  • Use AND to connect keywords that represent different concepts.  Ex: (lgbt OR gay OR lesbian) AND (teen OR adolescent) AND (identity)
