The following academic courses and departments have used the Make Shop for:
| ARC program | ARC program students made cards for gratitude and encouragement, (these were send to hospitalized children) as part of their program requirement. | |
| ART 250 | Photography students made button merch with their own images. | |
| ECE 221 | Students created educational tools for use with preschoolers. Designs by students, cut by laser cutter. | |
| ELT 219 | Robotic cars- wood chassis cut with laser cutter, decorated with paint. | |
| ENG 102 | Students created collages to accompany their narrative essays. It served to get them to think about who they are as people, using art and literature. | |
| ENG 102 | Creative writing class created visual poems over 3 different sessions in the Make Shop. | |
| GRA 221 | Students used Cricut and laser cutter to cut out their pre-designed logos for the Graphic Arts Portfolio Showcase. | |

| Sonography program | Students participated in a stress relief program and learned how to draw zentangles | |
| Office of International Education | Visit with 3 colleagues from University of Chiapas Mexico- provided a space for students to create projects and visit with Harper students and community. | |
| Wellness Department | Wellness office painted tshirts as a way to engage with each other at the end of the semester. | |
| ADS Department | Team building activity: bracelet making. |
Students are encouraged to:
1. Develop skills in critical-thinking, design, and problem-solving.
2. Engage in an active, hands-on learning experience.
3. See themselves as creators of information instead of just consumers of information.
4. Invent, construct, and create new modes of expressing or displaying their work.
5. Engage with other makers in the Harper community in order to learn from each other.
